Contemplative Musings from the Heart
DOUBT THAT FREES
"False doubt is but a thought-form that resists reality. Genuine doubt is a total movement of one's being that probes and seeks reality. The first binds. The other liberates. Choose liberation over bondage."
RELIGION
"Religion obsesses with getting the right answers. Spirituality is about asking the right questions. Religionism is opposed to secularism. Spirituality has no issue with religion or secularity. Perpetual dogmatic opposition cannot bring peace."
In Zen, there is a provocative koan that goes something like this: "If you meet the Buddha on the road, kill him!" This cuts through our mental cobwebs to point directly to the space of awareness beyond the conceptual prison of self-identified thought and memory. Let me ask you a Christic koan: "What would you do if you meet Jesus on the road?" Love him? Worship him? Fall down in prostration before him? Beg for mercy? Plead for healing? Or what? Tell me!
What if I say "crucify him?" What would be your reaction to that?
PROPHETIC VOICE
"A prophetic contemplative voice is a lone quiet voice in the wilderness of indifference. Rejected by almost all. But such a voice of radical stirring from the depths holds the greatest potential to enlighten and transform."
