This morning I participated in a webinar on “Understanding Buddhism. Befriending Buddhists“ organised by the Singapore Centre for Global Missions. Here is the poster for the webinar this morning. If you are keen to watch, I believe the video recording will be available on the SCGM website.
In this webinar, I shared my personal testimony of my encounter of faith with Christ, answered questions on essential teachings of the Buddha and Buddhist meditation, and clarified the concept of nirvana for a Christian audience. I also shared my perspective on the meaning and symbol of the Buddha image, as well as how to befriend and engage with Buddhists in a mindful, open, friendly, understanding, and loving Christ-like way without hidden agendas.
Beyond that, I feel it’s important that we walk alongside our friend (who happens to be Buddhist) through the ups and downs of life, not as an “evangelist” but as a sincere friend who cares. We need to witness Christ by being Christ, not talking about Christ down to another.
